Pet Partners Handler Workshop

Have you ever considered volunteering with your pet? Imagine visiting with a child going through cancer treatment and watching the magic of a sloppy dog kiss transform the mood in the room. Or consider the sweet nuzzle of your pup as he nudges the hand of an elderly Alzheimer’s patient looking for a pat on the head. Make a connection to people in our community by sharing the love of your pet, it’s the best volunteer job you will ever have. This class is open to pet owners with the following pets: dogs, cats, equines, rabbits, guinea pigs, llamas/alpacas, birds miniature pigs, and rats.This workshop is the first step in becoming a therapy animal team with your pet. You will learn
- the skills needed to visit safely
- volunteer responsibilities
- supporting and being your animal’s advocate
- how to decide what type of facilities to visit
- various visiting techniques
- regulations and policies
- detailed instructions and requirements for the team evaluation
