Yoga with the Tigers at Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW!

Black Cat Yoga is partnering with Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary in an effort to assist their organization in raising funds so that they may continue to fulfill their mission of providing a safe, loving and forever home to endangered big cats and to educate the public about their plight in the wild and in captivity. Their primary focus is in the rescue of exotic animals from serious situations. Once an animal arrives at Catty Shack Ranch, they have a loving, forever home for life. They do not breed, trade, sell, or buy any of their residents.

Black Cat Yoga Studio will be guiding a 60-minute accessible yoga experience on location at Catty Shack Ranch in a large open field located near the majestic large cats who call this sanctuary home. Immediately following the yoga, we will be given a private guided tour by the volunteers of the facility where you will be given an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the animals and their organization.

Bring the  Kids!
There will also be a “Cubs Corner” so you can bring your kids! All little cubs will sit with the adults for the video. Then as the adults go to the 1-hour yoga class, the cubs will go play games. After the yoga class, adults and cubs will reunite for a guided tour where you will have the chance to meet all the Catty Shack residents.

ALL of the proceeds for this event will go directly to Catty Shack Ranch. It is our intention at Black Cat Yoga to give back to our community and to be stewards to our animal companions who share the earth with us. Please join us for an afternoon of well-being, fellowship, and help us support this wonderful and caring organization.

Catty Shack Saturday Night Feeding

Leave dogs at home ~!

During an evening visit at Catty Shack Ranch, you’ll be guided where to park by one of our volunteers. From your parking spot, you need only walk a short distance to our entrance to check in. If you purchased tickets online, we will check your name against our list. If not, no problem, you can pay when you arrive. Your visit will start with an introductory video that explains a little about us and our history. Then you will go on a guided walking tour with the opportunity to see our resident animals, which include tigers, lions, cougars, leopards, lynx, coatimundis, and foxes. Tours begin at 6:00 PM and leave approximately every 20 minutes. Tours last about 45 minutes and you are encouraged to ask questions of the guide as he or she tells you about the animals.

Following your tour, you can wander around and revisit the animals, head to our entrance area and get something to eat or drink from our concession stand, or sit and relax on any of our benches and watch the animals enjoy their evening. The last tour leaves at 7:00 PM and we close the entrance gate at 7:15 PM. At 7:30 PM you get to watch us feed the animals! You’ll watch as we hand out as much as 600 pounds of meat, but you will hear the excitement too. The smaller animals – lynx, foxes, and coatimundis – are fed earlier in the day and not part of the public night feeding. The facility is mostly packed dirt or grass, accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. Bring your camera and take as many pictures as you like!!

Community Meditation

The Mindfulness Community of Atlantic Beach Florida was established in 2012. Long time Mindfulness Meditation Practitioners in the Thich Nhat Hanh Order of Interbeing, we, Yvette and Kinney, opened our home in Atlantic Beach Florida to neighbors and friends as safe space to breathe, sit, and walk together, once a month, as a mindfulness practice. The meditation community we call a Sangha, now meet at Pure Imagination Arts at 469-11 Atlantic Blvd. Atlantic Beach, Florida. We offer meditation twice a month, the second Sunday and last Sunday of each month. We are now three facilitators: Yvette, Kinney (Harold) and Elena.

Our intention is to create a community where we gather in the energy of loving-kindness that soothes us as we navigate in a world in distress. Our collective practice not only cares for our needs, but for those around us in our communities—both local and worldwide. We look forward to our bi-monthly meditation practice in the Thich Nhat Hanh tradition. If you wish to learn more about the Thich Nhat Hanh and Order of Interbeing tradition, please read more at http://www.plumvillage.org/

The Practice Process: Our mindfulness practice runs for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Mindfulness is the energy of being aware and awake to the present moment. We open with sitting meditation for 25 minutes. We stand/stretch in Noble Silence (not speaking) for 5 minutes. Next, we do a walking meditation for about 15 minutes (outdoors or indoors). We do a stretch bathroom break in Noble Silence for 5 minutes. We share a short Dharma reading, or offer a Dharma talk, aimed at ways to live mindfully with messages in affirming our basic goodness, practicing loving-kindness and promoting well-being. Lastly, we have a Dharma discussion for 25 minutes on ways we may practice mindfulness in our daily lives. This is an opportunity to reflect upon your own meditation practice as well as what you are learning about practicing mindful living. We conclude. Because this may be new for many people, we’ll give brief explanations along the way. For the more curious, we invite those questions and explorations with us after our practice time.

We meet on Sundays, from 4:00p.m. to 5:30p.m., twice a month. We usually meet on the second Sunday and last Sunday of each month. When there is an exception, we will promptly notify you.

We look forward to seeing you!

In loving-kindness,

Yvette, Kinney and Elena
